District Director, Alaska District Office | U.S. Small Business Administration
A dedicated public servant of nearly 30 years, Nancy Porzio is the district director for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Alaska District Office. Porzio oversees the delivery of SBA lending, contracting, counseling and training programs across the entire state of Alaska.
The SBA Alaska District Office is based in Anchorage with a second office location in Fairbanks. She and her team work in tandem with six Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), a statewide SCORE chapter, traditional and alternative lenders, and various economic development organizations that partner with the SBA. Porzio and her team also manage the SBA 8(a) Business Development Program portfolio for Alaska, one of the largest and most diverse portfolios in the country serving Alaska Native Corporations (ANCs) and minority-owned, Native-owned, and Tribal-owned small businesses.
Following 10 years in commercial banking, Porzio joined the SBA Alaska District Office in 1987 in the loan division. Intent on furthering her career and experiencing other markets, she worked in SBA offices in California, Minnesota and South Dakota before leading the SBA Seattle District Office in 2004 as district director.
In September 2016, Porzio returned to where her SBA career started by accepting the position of district director for the SBA Alaska District Office. In this role, she plans to expand outreach and marketing of SBA services throughout the state.
Porzio also has small business management experience through a 20-year partnership in a general contracting business. Although she no longer participates in the business, she remains a strong advocate for small business and entrepreneurship and looks forward to serving the businesses in Alaska. She is married to Ron Porzio, a retired hospital administrator with the VA and Swedish Medical Center.
